This is made from 40x lite-on cdrom drive. The controller is a Jeti 6-3p. I am using the bushing right out of the drive and I rewound the motor with 20 turns per pole of 26 gauge wire.
I don't usually fly direct drive planes. This is the best direct drive I have built so far. I was easy to fly and fairly quick. I was flying in 10 to 12mph winds this morning without too much trouble. I tested this motor against a 280 with the same prop and found much better performance with the brushless. I was getting as much as 13.5 minutes of flight time out of a 700 mah NIHM 8 cell battery. The plane was something I had laying around. I cut the stick off that I usually mount the IPS motor to. Then I glued a wood bulkhead to the front and glued the motor directly to that. I need more down thrust, but I just add incedence to the wing to compensate.
